PUBG MOBILE has recently launched a new campaign called ‘Play For Green’ as part of the Green Game Jam organized by Playing For The Planet, an initiative supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to raise awareness about environmental protection through games. The campaign aims to mobilize the global PUBG MOBILE player base to support real-world conservation projects and promote a greener future.
The campaign introduces a new official map series called ‘The Ruins of Erangel,’ created in collaboration with UCL professor Mark Maslin. This map series envisions the iconic heart of Erangel after 100 years of climate change, depicting a future plagued by sandstorms, drought, and depletion of tree and plant life. Players are challenged to navigate through the map and face survival challenges in the face of an impending sandstorm.
In addition to the new map series, PUBG MOBILE is hosting an in-game event called ‘Run for Green,’ where players can contribute to environmental projects across Indonesia, Pakistan, and Brazil by participating in Classic modes. The event aims to protect vital habitats and support Earth’s ecosystem by engaging players in real-world conservation efforts.
Furthermore, PUBG MOBILE is inviting creators to participate in the World Of Wonder Green Creative Contest by using the ‘Ruins of Erangel’ template to raise awareness about climate change and envision a better future. The winning maps will be featured in World of Wonder and receive a share of the prize pool.
To encourage players to engage in climate-positive activities, themed items such as the California Redwood and Giant Baobab trees are being added to World of Wonder mode. Additionally, a Global Action Challenge is being held on PUBG MOBILE’s official social channels, where players can share stories of local environmental initiatives for a chance to win exclusive in-game items.
Vincent Wang, Head of PUBG MOBILE Publishing at Tencent Games, emphasized the importance of using gaming to address climate change and inspire real-world action. Prof. Mark Maslin highlighted the campaign’s role in raising awareness about climate change and engaging players in the fight to protect the planet. Sam Barrett, Co-founder of Playing for the Planet, emphasized the power of gaming to inspire players to take action and make a difference.
Overall, PUBG MOBILE’s ‘Play For Green’ campaign is a significant step towards leveraging the gaming community to contribute to environmental conservation efforts and raise awareness about climate change. Through immersive experiences and real-world challenges, players are encouraged to be part of the solution and create a sustainable future for generations to come.
