Kensington and Chelsea welcomed a new mayor following an annual council vote on Wednesday. Councillor Tom Bennett was elected as Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea for 2025-26, taking over from cllr Will Lane. Mayor Bennett expressed his gratitude for being chosen to represent the borough and highlighted his focus on civic pride, unity, and joy throughout his term. He emphasized his commitment to supporting various organizations and community groups within RBKC.
After his election, Mayor Bennett announced London’s Air Ambulance Charity as his Mayoral Charity for the year. The charity’s Chief Executive, Jonathan Jenkins, expressed gratitude for the support, stating that it comes at a crucial time as they work towards transforming pre-hospital care in London. Councillor Aarien Areti was appointed as the deputy mayor, representing Holland ward since May 2018. Mayor Bennett, who first became a councillor for Redcliffe ward in 2018, has since served in various roles within the council, including Chairman of the Environment Select Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Planning Committee.
Tom Bennett and his wife, Beatrice, moved to Kensington and Chelsea in 2013, where they welcomed their children, Aurelia and Lorenzo, both born at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The Mayor looks forward to engaging with the community and supporting initiatives that promote civic engagement and unity throughout his tenure.
