Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels recently mentioned the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy 2 during the Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference. Wiedenfels emphasized the importance of this sequel for the gaming division and hinted at a timeframe of a couple of years. According to a report by Variety, he stated, “Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that games business in our strategic outlook here.”
It is no surprise that Hogwarts Legacy 2 would be a top priority for WB Games, considering it outsold popular games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo IV, Starfield, and Resident Evil 4 last year.
The timeline for the release of Hogwarts Legacy 2 is intriguing. A couple of years could mean around three years rather than two, hinting that a full-fledged sequel might not be ready until 2026. This timeframe suggests that the game could launch around the same time as the next generation of consoles, especially with rumors of Microsoft planning an early release for the next Xbox console. This strategic move could potentially align with the release of a ‘Game of the Year’ edition with additional DLCs once the PlayStation 6 hits the market.
Earlier this year, JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, hinted at the possibility of live service elements in the sequel. With Hogwarts Legacy 2 being powered by Unreal Engine 5, as revealed in job ads, the game could receive long-term support post-launch.
In addition to working on Hogwarts Legacy 2, WB Games is reportedly developing a Director’s Cut for the first installment with the assistance of Rocksteady. This move indicates the studio’s commitment to enhancing the gaming experience for fans of the franchise.
Overall, the news of Hogwarts Legacy 2 being a top priority for WB Games has sparked excitement among fans, and the hints about its potential features and release timeline have only added to the anticipation. With the success of the first game and the promising developments for the sequel, it seems that the magical world of Hogwarts will continue to captivate gamers for years to come.
