The renowned team behind London’s beloved Indian eatery, The Tamil Prince, is making waves by expanding their culinary empire south of the river with the opening of their first restaurant in South London – Tamila. Scheduled to open its doors on Clapham’s vibrant Northcote Road on Tuesday, October 1, Tamila represents a new chapter for the brand as they venture into uncharted territory.

A New Culinary Concept

Tamila marks a departure from the traditional “Indian pub” style that the owners are known for, evolving from its humble beginnings at Hackney Bridge’s bustling food hall to a full-fledged restaurant in the heart of Clapham. After honing their craft and perfecting their menu in a dynamic food hall setting, Tamila will serve as the brand’s first permanent establishment in South London, offering diners a unique and authentic dining experience unlike any other.

A Taste of South India

Curated by co-founder and executive chef Prince Durairaj, the menu at Tamila pays homage to his South Indian roots, showcasing a diverse array of dishes from Tamil Nadu and beyond. While classic favorites like roti and curries remain at the core of the offerings, guests can look forward to exciting new additions, including specials cooked in the traditional tandoor oven for that unmistakable Indian flavor.

In addition to an expanded bread selection that includes Garlic coriander naan, Kulcha naan, and Peshwari naan, Tamila will also feature a dedicated dosa section with mouthwatering options such as Chilli cheese dosa, Mutton uttapam, and Masala dosa. Snack enthusiasts can indulge in tantalizing treats like Chicken lollipops, Fried baby sweetcorn, and Gobi 65, while those craving a hearty meal can savor the Masala Poori – a puffed wheat bread served with coconut chutney and potato masala.

A Culinary Adventure

Beyond its delectable menu offerings, Tamila will also boast a carefully curated drinks menu featuring Indian-spiced cocktails like the Gunpowder Margarita, Tamil Negroni, and Charcoal Old Fashioned, alongside their signature Tamila lager and a selection of draught wines. With seating for 50 indoors and additional outdoor seating available during warmer months, Tamila promises to provide a memorable dining experience for patrons looking to explore the rich and diverse flavors of Indian cuisine.

Chef Prince Durairaj expressed his enthusiasm for the opening of Tamila, stating: “We’re thrilled to bring Tamila to Clapham. This is more than just a new restaurant – it’s a culinary journey that aims to elevate the traditional curry house experience. We can’t wait for you to taste what we’ve been working on.”

As bookings for Tamila are now open, interested diners are encouraged to secure their reservations in advance, as walk-in availability will be limited. Operating seven days a week starting October 1, 2024, Tamila invites guests to embark on a gastronomic adventure unlike any other in South London.
