Farbez Uddin, the owner of Bun & Sum, a burger joint in East London, has been named Burger Chef of the Year 2024. Uddin, who started his business three years ago, was recognized for his delicious ‘George Motz Oklahoma Smash’ burger at the National Burger Awards 2024. Despite facing tough competition from bigger brands, Uddin was surprised and thrilled to receive the prestigious award.
Growing up in Poplar, Uddin decided to venture into the food industry after his property business was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the support of his wife, he opened Bun & Sum in the summer of 2021, specializing in a variety of mouthwatering burgers. While Uddin personally loves a simple double cheeseburger, his customers can’t get enough of the Big S’Mac and Bow Dip burgers, which are top sellers at his restaurants.
Currently, Bun & Sum operates two branches in Bow and Hackney, with plans to expand to Camden Market and Whitechapel in the near future. The new Whitechapel location will offer a unique American-inspired vibe, complete with vintage arcade machines and classic games. Uddin draws inspiration from American burger culture, introducing innovative burger creations like the pastrami burger and green chili burger to his menu.
With a strong presence on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, Bun & Sum has attracted a large following and positive reviews from bloggers, celebrities, and customers alike. Uddin credits social media for helping to promote his business and create a buzz around his unique burger offerings.
The success of Bun & Sum is a testament to Uddin’s passion for burgers and dedication to providing customers with high-quality, delicious food in a welcoming atmosphere. As he looks ahead to future expansions and new menu additions, Uddin remains committed to delivering an exceptional dining experience to burger lovers across London.
