Pioneering British folk rockers Fairport Convention are gearing up for a special performance at London’s Cutty Sark this month as part of their autumn UK tour, marking an impressive 57 years in the music industry. The iconic rock group, known for hits like Who Knows Where The Time Goes, A Sailor’s Life, and Fotheringhay, was famously fronted by the late Sandy Denny in the 1960s.

The current lineup features founding member Simon Nicol on guitar and vocals, along with Dave Pegg on bass guitar, Ric Sanders on violin, Chris Leslie on fiddle, mandolin, and vocals, and Dave Mattacks on drums. The band is set to take the stage at the Cutty Sark Dry Berth on Sunday, October 27, starting at 7pm, with tickets priced at £40.

Founded in 1967 by Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol, Fairport Convention played a key role in the UK folk music scene, alongside artists like Ewan MacColl, Steeleye Span, and Pentangle, reviving traditional folk songs and bringing them to a new audience. Inspired by Bob Dylan’s folk revival in the US, the band infused these old songs with local dialects and instrumental flair, staying true to their origins.

Despite lineup changes over the years, Fairport Convention’s dedication to their craft and passion for live performances have remained steadfast. The upcoming Autumn Tour promises a blend of classic Fairport hits along with surprises from their extensive discography.

Over the years, Fairport Convention has garnered accolades, including a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voting their album Liege & Lief as ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’. Their remarkable journey has been documented in television documentaries on BBC Four and Sky Arts.
