This winter, Crisis, a national homelessness charity, is urging swimmers to come together and brave the icy waters of Brockwell Lido in a heartwarming initiative to raise money for those experiencing homelessness. The Icebreaker challenge, set to take place on December 7 at 9:45 am in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, welcomes participants to join in and make a difference.
Individuals can choose to take on the challenge solo by swimming a width of the pool or team up with friends for a relay race. The registration fee is £15, with all proceeds going towards Crisis’ mission to end homelessness in Great Britain. Not only will participants be contributing to a great cause, but they will also enjoy the benefits of cold-water swimming, which has been shown to improve both mental and physical health.
The Icebreaker challenge plays a crucial role in raising awareness and support for those facing homelessness, especially during the holiday season. In London alone, there has been an 18% increase in the number of people sleeping rough between July and September this year.
