Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, has acknowledged that the club could have performed better in the summer transfer market. He pointed out that other teams who finished around the same position as Palace last season spent a lot of money to strengthen their squads, while Palace made a profit instead.
During the summer transfer window, Palace sold players like Michael Olise, Jordan Ayew, Sam Johnstone, and Joachim Andersen, while bringing in new signings such as Eddie Nketiah, Maxence Lacroix, Ismaila Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah, Daichi Kamada, and Chadi Riad. Glasner had to wait until deadline day to finalize deals for Nketiah, Chalboah, Lacroix, and Matt Turner.
Despite the signings, Palace has had a slow start to the season, only picking up three points in their first eight games. This is equal to their worst record after eight games in a Premier League season. However, the team ended last season on a high note, winning six of their last seven games and finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League for the second time in their history.
Glasner admitted that there were high expectations for this season after the success of the previous one, but they need to find a balance between realism and pushing themselves to achieve more. He emphasized the need to get back on track and keep their belief alive.
When asked if he was disappointed with the club’s investment in the squad, Glasner mentioned that they could have done better in the transfer window. He expressed his displeasure with finalizing four signings on deadline day and not having enough time for the new players to settle in before the start of the season.
Overall, Glasner remains focused on improving the team’s performance and achieving their goals for the season. Despite the challenges faced in the transfer market, he is determined to lead Crystal Palace to success in the Premier League.
