Government Minister Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week at Local Nursery

In a show of support for National Apprenticeship Week, Early Education Minister Stephen Morgan paid a visit to Kido Nursery & Preschool in Barley Walk, Wandsworth. The purpose of his visit was to engage with apprentices at the nursery and gain insight into their experiences firsthand.

Upon arriving at the nursery, Minister Morgan was greeted by a group of dedicated apprentices, including Level 3 Early Years apprentices Hanna Semali and Sonja Ahmed, as well as Early Years Initial Teacher Trainee, Caitlin Atkins. The minister took the time to speak with each apprentice, listening to their stories and understanding the challenges and triumphs they face in their roles.

Expressing his admiration for the work of early years educators, Minister Morgan emphasized the crucial role they play in shaping the future of young children. In a recent development, the government introduced the Early Years Teacher Degree Apprenticeship standard, a three-year undergraduate program leading to Early Years Teacher Status. This initiative aims to offer both new and existing educators the chance to earn while they learn, further enhancing the support provided for apprentices in the early years sector. The course supplements the existing apprenticeships for Early Years Practitioner, Early Years Educator, and Early Years Lead Practitioner.

Reflecting on the government’s commitment to improving early years education, Minister Morgan stated, “As part of our Plan for Change, this government is determined to deliver an early years system that gives every child the best start in life—and high-quality early years starts with high-quality educators.”
