A new youth centre has been established in Canada Water by the Billy Youth Engagement Project (BYEP), a charity committed to supporting young individuals in London. According to Bienvenu Kitu, the founder of BYEP, young people play a crucial role in our society and it is essential to prioritize their growth and development in all areas.
This marks the first youth centre BYEP has launched in South London, with existing sites already operating in Tottenham and Brentford. The youth clubs offered by BYEP are free of charge and provide various forms of educational support such as math tutoring, computer and coding training, CV assistance, homework help, and counseling. Additionally, the centre offers engaging activities like basketball, football, cooking classes, picnics, and group games.
The new centre is equipped with a games area and an education area, where a qualified teacher is available in the evenings to aid children with their school work. Mr. Kitu expressed his pride in opening a third centre in London to further the organization’s goal of enriching the lives of young people who may not have access to the mentoring, education, and recreational opportunities provided by BYEP.
An opening event for the Canada Water centre took place on October 29, attracting over 75 attendees, including the Mayor of Southwark, councillor Naima Ali. Councillor Ali expressed excitement about welcoming BYEP to the borough of Southwark and anticipated the positive impact the organization would have on the community.
