The EFG London Jazz Festival is back for its 32nd year next month. This year, the festival will feature a wide range of acts at various venues across the city. The festival will kick off at the Southbank Centre’s royal festival hall on November 15 and will continue with over 300 live shows at 60 different venues until November 24.
One of the key venues for the festival is the Barbican, where some exciting acts will be performing. Legendary guitarist Pat Metheny, known for his collaboration with top artists in the jazz scene, will be playing on November 15 and 16 in support of his upcoming album, MoonDial.
On November 18, trumpeter Charles Tolliver will pay tribute to bebop pioneer Max Roach with a special performance featuring an all-star UK big band. The following day, saxophonist Ms Kinoshi and her ensemble, seed., will collaborate with the London Symphony Orchestra, showcasing a mix of original compositions and classical pieces.
Percussionist and composer Marilyn Mazur’s tribal band Shamania will take the stage on November 22 at Milton Court, bringing shaman-inspired rhythms from their new album REROOTING. The festival will conclude at the Barbican with Sikelela, thirty years on, celebrating South Africa’s music in honor of the country’s 30th anniversary of democracy.
The event, curated by Siyabonga Mthembu and Thandi Ntuli, will feature a lineup of talented artists including Bokani Dyer, Thandiswa Mazwai, and Soweto Kinch. Other venues to check out during the festival include Ronnie Scotts, Level 5 Function Room, and Live At Zédel.
