Caroline Dubois, a rising star in the world of boxing, recently received the prestigious WBC interim world lightweight title from WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman and former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. This remarkable achievement comes after Dubois secured a unanimous points decision victory over Maira Moneo in her 10th professional fight at Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley.
Hailing from Greenwich and at just 23 years old, Dubois is now set on a path to potentially face the current WBC world lightweight champion, Katie Taylor. Taylor is scheduled to fight Amanda Serrano for the world super lightweight titles on November 15 in Texas, and a showdown between Dubois and Taylor could be on the horizon.
Expressing her gratitude for the recognition, Dubois shared, “It’s amazing to have Mauricio come give me the belt. I looked up to Lennox Lewis, watching him as a young kid and obviously the WBC, the WBA, the IBF, the WBO, these are all the major belts. To now get almost a piece, it’s not the full belt which is what I will get, but it’s a step in the right direction.”
Sulaiman commended Dubois for her dedication and talent, stating, “I’m extremely proud. She is the future of boxing. A role model inside and outside the ring.” He highlighted Dubois’ discipline, work ethic, and readiness for any challenge that comes her way, emphasizing her potential to achieve great success in the sport.
Ben Shalom, the founder and chief executive of BOXXER, Dubois’ promotional company, also expressed his confidence in her abilities. He remarked, “Caroline Dubois is one of the future faces of female boxing. We believe she will unify the lightweight division before moving up and becoming a multi-weight world champion and pound-for-pound star.”
With a promising career ahead of her, Dubois is poised to make a significant impact in the world of boxing. Her determination, skill, and unwavering commitment to her craft set her apart as a formidable force in the sport. As she continues to train and push her limits, the boxing world eagerly awaits her next moves and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for this talented athlete.
