Two people were reportedly attacked at a Tesco Express in East London on Sunday, October 13. The incident escalated when a police officer was allegedly assaulted in Dagenham. The authorities received a distress call about the assaults at The Heathway around 8:56 pm. According to reports, a man initially assaulted a member of the public inside the store and then proceeded to seriously assault a female outside the store.
Vilius Petronavicus, a 28-year-old resident of Leyburn Road in Romford, has been charged in connection with the assaults. He is facing charges of assault by beating, assault causing actual bodily harm, assault by beating an emergency worker, two counts of racially aggravated intentional harassment, and two counts of using threatening behavior to cause harassment, alarm, or distress. Petronavicus is scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 15.
The Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated, “Vilius Petronavicus, 28, of Leyburn Road, Romford has since been charged with various offenses related to the assaults at Tesco Express.” The incident highlights the importance of maintaining public safety and the challenges faced by emergency workers in the line of duty.
