Ashley Maynard-Brewer is once again the goalkeeper for Charlton Athletic, but this time without his protective mask. The Australian keeper had been wearing a mask since January 2023 after breaking his nose twice in quick succession. However, after consulting with a surgeon, Maynard-Brewer decided to no longer wear the mask this season.

The decision to stop wearing the mask was influenced by Maynard-Brewer’s desire to start fresh this season and not give the impression that he was still carrying an injury. Despite the mask not affecting his vision, it did make him a target for away fans who made comments comparing him to Zorro or Batman.

Maynard-Brewer’s return to the starting lineup came in a League One match against Exeter, marking his first league appearance under Charlton manager Nathan Jones. Jones had initially chosen Harry Isted as the starting goalkeeper but expressed his intention to bring in two new goalkeepers during the summer transfer window.

Although Charlton missed out on some of their goalkeeper targets, Maynard-Brewer remained with the team and has since been performing well in the EFL Trophy matches. With Will Mannion sidelined due to injury, Maynard-Brewer has kept clean sheets in recent games and is determined to make the most of his playing time.

Looking ahead, Maynard-Brewer is focused on contributing to the team’s success and is prepared to work hard to maintain his position in the starting lineup. Despite Charlton’s mixed results in League One so far, Maynard-Brewer believes that the team has the potential to compete against any opponent in the division.

As Charlton enters a busy period of fixtures, Maynard-Brewer is optimistic about the team’s prospects and is determined to help them climb the league table. With a strong work ethic and commitment to improvement, Maynard-Brewer is ready to seize the opportunity and make a positive impact for Charlton Athletic.
