A woman’s harrowing experience with domestic abuse left her fearing for her life, as she endured physical and mental torment at the hands of her partner. The abuse, which included punches, strangulation, and control tactics, drove her to the brink as she grappled with the trauma inflicted upon her. Haroun Yasin Mohammed Berghout, a 27-year-old from Richmond, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Guildford Crown Court on February 6, following a series of violent acts against his former partner. The court also imposed a 10-year restraining order against Berghout, aimed at protecting the victim and her family from further harm.
The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, shared the devastating impact of the abuse she endured, likening it to torture that left her with physical injuries and emotional scars. Despite initially denying the allegations, Berghout pleaded guilty to a range of offenses, including Coercive and Controlling Behavior, Intentional Strangulation, Criminal Damage, and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
