Google has recently announced a new update for the Chromecast with Google TV, which is available for both the 4K and HD versions of the dongle. This update includes a new security patch level, performance enhancements, and bug fixes to improve the overall user experience.

Even though Google has introduced the new $99.99 Google TV Streamer, the company will continue to provide updates for the existing Chromecast with Google TV devices. The latest update will bring the software version up to “STTE.240615.007”, which includes the July Android security patch level. This update is slightly larger in size, around 150MB, and may take some time to apply.

In addition to the security patch update, the new software also includes bug fixes and performance improvements. After downloading the update, users will need to restart their dongle to ensure the changes take effect. Unfortunately, the update does not address the ongoing issue of laggy user interface experienced by some users.

To check for the new software build, users can navigate to Settings > System > About > System update on their Chromecast with Google TV device. If you have not yet updated to the previous build with the June patch, the device may initially display that version. However, after a few seconds, the build number should automatically switch to the latest 007 version.

It is recommended for all Chromecast with Google TV users to update their devices to the latest software version to benefit from the enhanced security features, performance improvements, and bug fixes. Keeping your device up to date ensures a smoother and more secure streaming experience.
