Police have raised concerns about a request from a Bexley nightclub to extend its opening hours due to a series of incidents at the venue this year. Arcadia Lounge in Broadway, Bexleyheath, is looking to extend its weekend hours until 3.30am and close half an hour later on Thursdays at 2am. However, the Met Police have highlighted 10 crimes that have taken place at the venue, including assaults on security staff and racially abusive behavior towards employees. One incident involved a drunk customer biting a security guard and making racist remarks. Another incident in April resulted in a woman being punched outside the club. PC Kate Ellen expressed disappointment over a doorman’s lack of action when a heavily intoxicated woman needed help outside the premises. Additionally, an environmental health officer from Bexley council objected to the application, citing concerns about increased noise levels for residents. Earlier this year, the council had lifted restrictions on the nightclub’s license but refused to grant extended hours following police reports of violence in the area. The nightclub’s latest proposal argues that later closing times would help disperse patrons and reduce street congestion after other nightclubs shut down. The application will be reviewed at a licensing meeting on October 18. Arcadia Lounge declined to comment on the matter.
