A large rodent known as a capybara managed to escape from a zoo in Shropshire but has been recaptured after a week on the run. The capybara, named Cinnamon, was found in a field near Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World in Telford, where she had escaped from the previous Friday. It took a team of experts over a dozen strong until Friday to capture her in a pond located in the zoo’s woodland conservation area.

The search for Cinnamon was a challenging one, with keepers working tirelessly to locate and capture her. Despite the dense undergrowth in the area where she was hiding, the team was determined to bring her back safely. After being spotted by a thermal drone and fresh tracks being found, Cinnamon was finally caught and returned to her enclosure with her twin brother, Churro.

The zoo has made it clear that Cinnamon will not be on public display this weekend as she readjusts to her surroundings and family members. Capybaras are known to be the largest rodents globally, reaching lengths of over 4 feet and heights of up to 2 feet. They are semi-aquatic creatures that enjoy being in water.

Owner Will Dorrell expressed his relief at having Cinnamon back at the zoo and thanked everyone who helped in the recapture. He mentioned that Cinnamon will spend time with her brother in an off-show enclosure before hopefully rejoining her family next week. The zoo is excited to have Cinnamon back and is looking forward to her return to her usual paddock.

Overall, the team at Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World is grateful for the public’s support during this ordeal and is thrilled to have Cinnamon home safe and sound. The efforts to recapture her were challenging but ultimately successful, ensuring that Cinnamon can continue to thrive in her familiar environment.
