I moved to London from Leicestershire over a year ago and have since embraced the bustling city life. Despite missing the greenery of the East Midlands, I now enjoy peaceful walks in places like Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. One major change for me has been the lack of need for a car, as public transport in London is abundant and easy to use compared to the Midlands. The city’s diverse nature has also surprised me, with different areas feeling familiar and welcoming. The presence of a mayor in London plays a significant role in understanding residents’ views and issues, a concept now being adopted in the East Midlands as well. Overall, my transition to life in London has been an eye-opening experience filled with new discoveries and familiar comforts.
