The latest podcast documentary from The London Society delves into the neighborhoods of Clerkenwell, Farringdon, Holborn, Bloomsbury, and St Giles, exploring the themes of continuity and change in these areas. As a trustee of The London Society, I was tasked with researching, writing, and presenting this audio project, which presented some interesting challenges.

In structuring the script for the podcast, I decided to take the listener on a journey from one Elizabeth line station, Farringdon, to the next one, Tottenham Court Road, moving east to west through the neighborhoods. The unifying theme of the documentary focused on achieving “good growth” in these areas by valuing the past and looking towards the future, echoing the principles of The London Society itself.

Collaborating with BBC Radio 4 producer Andrew McGibbon was a pleasure, as his expertise and talent helped to create a polished and engaging final product that is 38 minutes long. The podcast was generously funded by the Central District Alliance business improvement district, whose membership includes the five London neighborhoods highlighted in the documentary. Despite my continuous narration throughout the podcast, Andrew’s skills made it easy on the ears for listeners.

If you are interested in joining The London Society to support future projects like this podcast, I encourage you to do so today. The exploration of these London neighborhoods offers valuable insights into the history, present, and future of these dynamic areas, shedding light on the ongoing changes and developments taking place in the heart of the city.
