Sony Middle East and Africa recently unveiled the HDC-P50A 4K camera, which is designed to be compact and lightweight. The camera features a 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K image sensor with a global shutter function, providing high flexibility in installation and optional licenses to enhance functionality.
This new camera inherits the performance and features of Sony’s existing HDC-P50 camera but comes with added support for IP transmission using the SMPTE ST 2110 standard, which is widely used in broadcasting and live production. In addition to SDI outputs, the HDC-P50A can connect to a camera control unit (CCU) for remote operation, even in distant shooting environments.
The compact design of the HDC-P50A makes it suitable for hard-to-reach locations, aerial shots, and wire cam setups. For added versatility, an optional HKC-VND50 variable ND filter is available. As part of Sony’s Networked Live ecosystem, the HDC-P50A supports IP-based centralized monitoring and remote operation via the CNA-2 camera control network adapter.
Moreover, the HDC-P50A integrates seamlessly with Sony’s existing systems due to its 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K sensor and prism, delivering high-quality color reproduction similar to the HDC-3500 and HDC-5500 models. This camera aims to meet the increasing demand for high-quality video production in events such as sports and live performances, as well as the growing need for automation and IP compatibility in live production.
The HDC-P50A’s IP capabilities can be further enhanced with the optional HZC-SFP5A license, enabling direct IP output via SMPTE ST 2110, AMWA NMOS compatibility, and IP Tally support. This makes it a powerful option for IP-based studios without the need for additional hardware. Additionally, the camera can be paired with the HDCE-TX50 IP camera extension adapter or CCUs like the HDCU-5000 and HDCU-5500 for long-distance connections of up to 10km, making it suitable for remote broadcasts such as golf tournaments.
Furthermore, the HDC-P50A is equipped for high-frame-rate (HFR) shooting, offering up to 4x speed in 4K and 8x speed in HD when connected to the appropriate CCUs and licensed software. The camera covers a wide color gamut, including BT.2020 and S-Gamut3, allowing for easy integration with existing systems.
The HDC-P50A will be showcased at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam at Sony’s stand in the Elicium. This new camera release aims to meet the ever-diversifying needs of the video production industry, catering to the demands of high-quality video production, automation, and IP compatibility in live events and broadcasts.
