Cray Valley’s McKimm Celebrates Breaking Winless Streak with Victory Over Potters Bar
Cray Valley made a triumphant return to form in the Isthmian League Premier Division with a decisive 2-0 victory over Potters Bar Town on Saturday. The win not only bolstered their playoff position but also ended a frustrating six-game winless streak that had been plaguing the team.
The match saw Kiki Oshilaja and former AFC Wimbledon midfielder Tom Beere shine as they each netted a goal in the second half, propelling the Millers to a much-needed win. This victory now places them seven points behind league leaders Billericay and five points clear inside the playoff pack.
Reflecting on the game, manager Steve McKimm expressed his relief and satisfaction at the team’s performance. “It was much-needed,” McKimm stated. “We have been scrambling around for the last month and a bit to try and get over the line. It was a scrappy game against a decent side, but we stuck to our guns and came out in the second half to exploit space and secure two fantastic goals.”
McKimm’s pride in his players was evident as he commended their resilience and determination. “I’m very pleased for the players,” he remarked. “The longer it goes on, they get more deflated. We kept spirits high, and the second half was more about what we were about. Everything is positive after today.”
The win not only brought joy to the team but also to their devoted fans and everyone associated with the club. McKimm emphasized the importance of the victory in terms of the team’s overall season goals. “Everybody wants to stop teams getting into the playoffs. We’re going to enjoy the three points because we have waited a long time,” he said. “As long as we keep picking up points and getting to that end total to get into the playoffs, everybody is going to be happy.”
Looking ahead, Cray Valley faces tough matches against Dover Athletic and Hashtag United, both vying for a top-five spot. McKimm acknowledged the significance of the recent win in boosting the team’s morale and confidence for the challenges ahead. “That win is such a relief for the players,” he stated. “We can look forward to the next three points. We have eight games and we have to get as many points. We will see where that leaves us at the end of the season.”
McKimm’s focus remains on the team’s performance and unity as they navigate the remaining fixtures. “I’m not interested in which teams can catch us or where we can catch people,” he explained. “I’m interested in us going out every Saturday and putting in a performance. These boys put a lot of work in. I’m not looking below or above; I’m looking at what Cray Valley can do between now and the end of the season.”
As the team celebrates their recent success, McKimm’s dedication to maintaining a winning mentality and fostering a strong team spirit shines through. With their eyes set on the playoffs, Cray Valley is poised to continue their impressive run and strive for further victories in the upcoming matches.
