The UK recently sent a new batch of long-range Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine, according to Bloomberg. The decision to send these missiles came after US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister authorized the use of lethal weaponry inside Russia. Although the exact number of missiles sent was not disclosed due to security concerns, anonymous sources revealed that dozens of Storm Shadow missiles were part of the recent delivery. This marks the first known instance of Sir Keir Starmer sending weapons to Ukraine, as part of the UK government’s commitment to support Kyiv.
The deliveries, which were not publicly announced, took place several weeks ago after Ukraine faced a shortage of long-range missiles. The Russian ambassador to the UK, Andrey Kelin, issued a warning in response to Britain’s support for Ukraine, stating that World War III is now “imminent.” He cautioned that allowing Ukraine to carry out strikes inside Russia could lead to a serious escalation and potential conflict between nuclear powers.
Kelin emphasized that Russia has repeatedly warned against Western missiles being used to strike inside their country, and viewed such actions as a deliberate decision by the US, France, and the UK. The Kremlin also stated that they reserve the right to target military facilities of countries supporting Ukraine, including the US, UK, and other NATO members.
This development underscores the escalating tensions between Russia and Western powers, with the situation in Ukraine continuing to be a focal point of international concern. The involvement of major world leaders and the deployment of advanced weaponry raise fears of a broader conflict with potentially catastrophic consequences. As diplomatic efforts falter and military posturing intensifies, the risk of a direct confrontation between nuclear-armed nations looms large on the horizon.
