A playground in Kennington that had been closed for four years has finally reopened after a much-anticipated renovation. The Fredericks Adventure Playground on Westcott Road is now available for children aged 8-14 and local families to enjoy once again.
After being shut down in 2019 due to its deteriorating condition, the playground underwent a redevelopment project that cost over £700,000. The upgraded space now boasts modern play structures, accessible equipment, and beautifully landscaped recreational areas for all to enjoy.
The revitalization of the playground was a result of extensive consultations with residents to ensure that the new design by Erect Architecture would prioritize fun, exploration, and inclusivity for all users.
Councillor Portia Mwangangye, the cabinet member for children, schools, and families, expressed her excitement about the reopening, stating, “Fredericks Playground is a shining example of our dedication to investing in playgrounds within communities. These spaces not only bring people together but also encourage children to discover, play, and learn. This transformation guarantees that every child has a place where they can feel welcomed and have a great time.”
With the playground now open to the public, local children and families can once again enjoy the revamped space. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the reopening, attended by Cllr Natasha Ennin, Cllr John Batteson, Cllr Mwangangye, and enthusiastic local residents.
The newly renovated Fredericks Playground in Kennington stands as a beacon of hope and optimism for the community, offering a safe and engaging environment where children can learn, play, and thrive together. This revamped play area is not just a place for recreation but a symbol of the community’s commitment to investing in the well-being and happiness of its youngest members.
