Charlton Athletic Midfielder Luke Berry Shares Insights on Team Success

Charlton Athletic midfielder Luke Berry recently spoke about his team’s approach to the game, emphasizing the importance of taking things one step at a time while setting high expectations for themselves. Following a 2-0 victory over Stevenage, Berry highlighted the team’s desire to compete at the summit of League One, acknowledging the positive impact of their recent performance.

Berry’s goal shortly after the half-time break, coupled with Matty Godden’s earlier goal, secured the win for Charlton Athletic, propelling them into the play-off positions and extending their undefeated streak in the league to five games. Reflecting on the match, Berry expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly in the second half.

“It was a really positive performance,” Berry remarked. “We settled down and played some really good stuff, probably some of the best stuff we played this season at home. We are such a young and eager group that we just want to keep running around frantically, but sometimes we just need to calm down and play our stuff – and we did.”

The significance of moving into the play-off spots was not lost on Berry, who emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and not getting carried away mid-season. While acknowledging the team’s current position, Berry stressed the need to remain grounded and focused on the upcoming matches against Peterborough and Birmingham.

“It’s nice to be in that position,” Berry admitted. “But it does not really mean anything yet until we get to the end of the season and we’re in there. We can always look up, we can try and get top four, top two, we can push it, there is no harm in pushing boundaries.”

Looking back on Charlton’s recent surge in form, Berry attributed their success to the squad finally ‘clicking’ and finding their rhythm on the field. He highlighted the importance of understanding each other’s strengths and building chemistry within the team, a process that he believes has been crucial to their recent performances.

“It takes time sometimes to learn who you are playing with,” Berry explained. “When you are playing, sometimes you need to feel it in a game. There was one Northampton game where it really sort of clicked for a lot of the boys that ‘this is it, this is how we should be playing’ and since then we’ve shown that.”

As Charlton Athletic continues to strive for success in League One, Berry’s insights offer a glimpse into the team’s mindset and determination to push boundaries while staying grounded in their approach. With a young and fearless group eager to make their mark, Charlton’s future looks promising as they set their sights on further victories in the season ahead.
